.
As phagosomes mature, they form lipid microdomains made up of cholesterol, ceramides and glucosylceramides, that make their underlying membranes rigid enough to facilitate transport along the microtubule network towards the lysosome.

The December 2021 issue of ACS Chemical Biology published a paper written by Dr. Neelay Mehendale and the journal asked him if he wanted to propose a cover for the issue. Jumping on this opportunity, we started brainstorming on how to encapsulate the science in his paper in a visual that'll be good for a cover. And after a lot of iterations, fact-checking and reworking, here we are! Thank you Neelay for painstakingly and patiently explaining this chemistry and biology to me. I can't explain how happy I am to see this artwork on the cover of such an important scientific journal!
